Omega Seamaster 2541.80 Watch
GoldenEye (1995) marks the
first appearance of an Omega watch in the James Bond films.
Debuting in the pre-title sequence
set some 9 years before the main action of the film, both agents 006
(Alec Trevelyan) and 007 wear the Omega Seamaster quartz model 2541.80,
on what appear to be otherwise nondescript black leather straps.
So this was the first James Bond
Omega watch. It's worn by actor Pierce Brosnan.
It's an M-6 issue on my movie watch properties scale.
I refuse to indulge the
self-appointed continuity police guards who like to point out that the
2541.80.00 did not exist in 1986, as calculated for the Arkangel
Chemical Weapons Facility mission. No dates are given in the film so how
do they know? And dates were specified, the 2541.80 is the GoldenEye
watch in any case — just look for yourself.
Best close-up of this watch on the
leather strap comes as Bond is making his way toward the light aircraft
that will serve as his escape. Look for the Omega Seamaster as he fires
off shots from his stolen machine gun.
After the opening credits role, 007
exclusively wears the Omega 2541.80 on its original, standard issue
1503-825 Omega bracelet.
If you purchase your own 2541.80.00,
proper bracelet sizing becomes a question, of course. GoldenEye
gives you some clues, but let me tell you as someone who has studied
moviemaking and props — it ain't real life.
The "same" watch can actually be a
variety of different stage watches, each subtly different, depending on
how closely it will be photographed, demands placed upon it, and, in the
case of the 007 films, gadgets to be deployed.
